A bit of Rotten Wood….

In the literal sense of the word. Well, it was to be expected. When remodeling or building, always expect at least a 20% increase in expense and time…It seems to always happen this way.

The gallery is coming along…More expense than anticipated, but it should look beautiful in the end…So much nicer than out own home! Perhaps we should move into it…

We are having a nice reception from artists who are participating in the Grand Opening…The invitations should be here very soon…Very talented artists (some renewing their collaboration with Arthaus66 and some new) are sending us very good pieces to exhibit…It should be a great first show!

And Now On To Something Completely Different…

The contractors are all lined up for the renovation of ARTHAUS66 and we’ll be off soon. Black Friday is the deadline we are keeping ourselves to. Ambitious, but possible.  The space is looking great: sleek, contemporary and innovative. Hopefully, unique in this town. All our eggs are in one basket, so to speak. It is indeed a gamble but we are confident that we will be able to pull it off. We have some wonderfully talented artists collaborating with us and now that our visibility and our reach in the arts community has grown, we will be able to promote them so much more successfully than before.

Keep your eyes on local papers such as THE, IQ and the Alibi for listings and also for a great advertising campaign that we are about to launch…It is very funny…

News to follow…Good ones, I hope….In the meantine, check it out at www.arthaus66.com

The Best Kind of Sale….

…is the cold, hard sale made to someone you have never even met…Nothing interferes with the genuine love for the artwork…No friendship, employment or relationship of any kind play a part in the connection with the buyer…Feels great…and they are happening quite frequently nowadays…

“Nereid” is leaving soon as well. I think “Adrift” (actually it is the second time I use that title…what does that mean?) is also going away…Another donation for Planned Parenthood is almost ready and then…we’ll see.

There have been some interferences…both internal and external…Doggy surgery with a great outcome…A stomach bug that has demolished all good intentions of a busy and productive week…Changes in employment…A new schedule…Prospective trips for loved ones…Too many things for someone like me who appreciates the solidity of a well oiled routine and despises any kind of surprise…

Sometimes I just wish for peace…but don’t we all.

If by plane…

Sinking Heart” arrived with no apparent problems…Well received by its new owner, it made its way to Ontario quite swiftly by plane. I am glad that it found a good home…all paintings should… The buyer was kind enough to write back with these words:

I received the painting a few days ago, and I absolutely love it.  It is so powerful and evocative and all the more special to me because of the story you included about your father.  Thank you very much.  I really do adore it...

…another happy customer…

A new set of paintings will be leaving Albuquerque next month. They are going to Holland…I’ve learned how to expedite the whole process and I won’t be making the same mistakes I made with the previous shipping…No customs charges this time…

I will post photos of these paintings as they become available…They have a common theme (required for the exhibit)…the ocean, the sea….I am going from a lot of red fire to a much cooler, watery space…Let’s see what happens…

And they are off….

The two enormous boxes with the six paintings for Bytes & Pieces in St. Petersburg are on their way.

I am almost finished with the paintings included in the Factory on 5th show. Only two more weeks to go…

I will also be having another show in October of next year (a solo show) in Oregon. More details to come very soon…I look forward to visiting Oregon for this particular one…

The weight of the world…

…is quite heavy indeed…and I am tired. We are very fortunate right now, though. All is well…at least right here, right now.

Around us, all around us it’s a fearful sight…

Sinking Heart” is making its way to Ontario, Canada. I hope there will be no problems during its trip…

Red Robin, Red Robin…

I just wanted to post this beautiful painting recently given to me. A very talented artist indeed. It will have a place of honor in my collection…

A little robin watches me from the branch…

Congratulations…You are a Wiener!

No this is not one of those spam messages that you get in your inbox…It is a declaration, an ode if you will to those men out there who live under the oppressing thumb of their scary wives…Who came first, the nazi wife or the self-flagellating husband? Dios los cria y ellos se juntan, like we say in Spain…which translates into something like God creates them and they choose to be together...One of those sick symbiotic relationships with no real “wieners“…

You know who you are…You with the shrieking old bag of a wife… You constantly eggshell stepping in your own house in a futile attempt to avoid her outbursts…You squirming to put up a front of domestic bliss when you are no longer able to look anybody in the eye because you don’t remember which one was the last lie you told…Yes, you

In my artistic musings (when I have time for musings at all) I have discovered an unending source of inspiration in the daily life and adventures of this particular couple. I have certain opportunities to glimpse into their interactions and they never fail to surprise me in a disgusting kind of way…Their isolation from reality, the animosity among the members of the household, the competitiveness that permeates their every action…They paint a sad picture (no pun intended). It is dysfunction at its best…kind of watching a train wreck in weekly episodes…

The only part not amusing to me is my personal, involuntary involvement, if ever tangential, in this matter. I try to stay on the sidelines, but sometimes they pull me in…Misery loves company…I guess.

I have completed a painting, the first of a series loosely based on these two specimens, titled “You Ain’t that Man”. I will post an image very soon. I think it will be displayed in the show at Factory on 5th in June.
